The latest version of this song is Bob Seger - Turn the page - v1.5.
This is the only song from Bog Seger that I know yet it's been in my head for many years. The saxophone line is awesome and I was reluctant to try to record this song exactly because of that with the obvious solution of falling back to the keyboard...
I didn't even try learning the saxophone for this song. I just searched for a good Native Instruments sample and found it right in the factory library. See the recording sheets for more details. I just focused on the primary saxophone sections but there's a lot more nuance to it, just pay attention to the second verse onward. Maybe I'll deal with this in the future with an updated recording.
When deciding to make the recording, I was firmly convinced that this instrument is a guitar. But after watching a few videos of live recordings I matched it to the Breakfast in NY Scarbee sample which I have previously used for recording Time.
Similarly to the lead piano, I chose a variation of the Scarbee Vintage Keys sample pack.
I struggled a lot with getting the higher register of the final section into a workable state. This is the best I could achieve at this point of my vocals learning path.
I enjoyed learning the buildup of the drums. I focused a lot on keeping the tempo constant. I discarded the first version recorded in July and kept the Sep version instead.
A basic bass line following the chord progression. I didn't go into much depth here.
