Elvis Presley - Can't help falling in love - 1.5

Video & comments: https://youtu.be/ocqGV0DW1NA

Recorded: Mar, May 2018 (1.0), Nov-Dec 2022 (1.5)

Rerecorded the vocals from the original. I got inspired after watching the 2022 Elvis movie and better understanding the tone of his voice. Then I remixed and remastered the song.

For the visuals, I recreated the video in DaVinci Resolve and slightly improved the poor image quality with some filters. Since the new track was recorded in the car, I reused a Nov 2019 video recording of a "chubby-faced" vocals performance that I discarded - this explains the out-of-sync parts.

I went back to my teacher for a couple of vocals lessons to help improve the first vocals recording for Pink Floyd - Time. We ended up exploring and working on my vocals range using "I can't help falling in love". Since I practiced this song for a longer time, I thought it would be a good idea to record it.

Guitar

Although the original song has a few guitar riffs, I chose not to record any just to keep things simple.

Vocals

Hitting the right note in the pre-chorus sections is tricky for me. I worked on keeping the notes as even as possible while aiming for a decent amount of sustain. This is my second recording of the vocals track. The first one was significantly worse.

Bass

Found online a simple bass line so I went with it. You can here a few string buzzes here and there. Learning to play bass is on my list...

Drums

For the first time I didn't have any matching drums samples for this song. It uses brushes with an acoustic drum set. Luckily I found the Abbey Road Vintage Drummer sample pack and I could record something convincing (to me) with not much effort. My first time with the sound of brushes and I really like this sample.

Piano

Just my usual The Maverick sound and arpegiating the chords.

Misc

The picture from the header was taken when I visited the historic RCA Studio B in Nashville where Elvis recorded most of his songs. Apparently this one wasn't recorded there though :-)
