The bass line of this song has long been a favorite of mine in Rocksmith 2014. Back fresh from a long vacation, I managed to record all the tracks over a weekend.
Acoustic guitar
This is a pretty straightforward open chords progression. It's the most important to hold the rhythm.
Piano
The role of the piano is minimal as it only shadows the descending bass riffs.
Keyboard - electric organ
Starting with the second verse the song gets an electric organ backing. I'm no big fan of electric organs in general but here it's a welcome addition.
Vocals
Since I can't match the vocal range of John Fogerty, my best bet was to lower the vocals by one full octave. This made me struggle in the lower register but at least I could hit the high notes.
Drums
I used again the Abbey Road 60s samples and made sure to match the bass with the kick drum as much as I could.
Bass
The song is quite much bass driven. I love this bass line! I practiced it a lot in Rocksmith and then used RocksmithToTab to convert the track into a Guitar Pro sheet. That's the one I used for practice and recording.
Misc
On the technical side this track has two first. I recorded all the guitar sections over a wireless Line 6 Relay G10 instead of using a guitar cable. I really liked the experience as I didn't notice any signal quality loss and instead it helped me move freely in the studio.
Secondly, I upgraded my video camera from the Canon VIXIA HF R800 to a Canon EOS 60D. I wanted to get rid of the graininess and to improve the color balance. It was the DBG Studio Tour video of the Darrel Braun Guitar channel that triggered my search - I always liked the image quality of those videos. I'm still learning it, get the focusing done right, trying the find the most suitable lens yet I already like what I'm seeing.
